It is our sense of self and of belonging.
If we hear our name called in a dream, our attention is being drawn specifically to the person we arc. There is a suggestion that parents name their child so that the meaning of the name carries the biggest lesson that the child has to learn in life.
For instance, Charles means ‘man’, and Bridget means ‘strength’.
2- When we arc aware of other people’s names, we are probably also aware of the qualities that person has and it is those qualities we need to look at. When the name of a place comes up in a dream, we are considering the way we feel about that place, or something we know about it.
There may also be some word-play on the names.
3- Spiritually, when something is named it then has form and therefore meaning.

To hear your name being called, indicates that you are in touch and in tune with your spirituality. It also makes you aware of your own uniqueness and highlights your individuality.
To see a familiar name written in your dream, symbolizes the way you feel about that person. Your intuition about them may turn out to be true. Sometimes names in dreams are ways of reminding us of people in our lives.

What spiritual qualities does this person have?

If the name seems to have significant meaning, consider the context and what the name means to you personally.
Saying someone’s name can mean you’re focusing on that person for some reason, perhaps with the intent of communicating with them.
Someone saying your name can represent perceiving or imagining them communicating with you or their focus being on you in real life.
Someone calling you an unpleasant name could represent a feeling or fear of being disrespected or rejected somehow.

If you dreamed that you couldn’t remember your own name, or that of someone you know well, the dream is warning you against an illicit affair or a questionable deal that you would find difficult to justify.
To be called by a wrong name in a dream portends grave difficulties on the personal side of life, but they will ultimately lead to better understanding.
If you are called by a name you do not know or recognize, then this may be an aspect of your personality you are trying to repress. [6]
The name, as in Matt, could be a doormat, or the name Mary, could be referencing marriage and commitment issues.
If you call someone you know by a different name, then consider the quality or your association with that name.
