Someone demanding payment can represent a real or imagined demand on you (such as for money, work, attention, or help).
Someone paying you for your efforts can represent: getting results, cause and effect, reward for work done or time invested, receiving what you feel you’ve earned or you deserve (such as money, recognition, admiration, or gratitude), or a desire for such.
Someone giving you money when buying something from you can represent an exchange of something valuable for something else valuable (money, time, energy, support, etc.).

The act of “paying” shows the work of karma, and that every cause has its effect. Everything has a cost. For example, gluttony brings health problems; selfishness generates loneliness; and covetousness, spiritual poverty. Happiness is in the middle ground between belongings and austerity. You must accept things are not yours, everything you have the world has only lent to you. Often, when one has nothing is when one has everything. [2]

debt, a: financial gains if you settle past indebtedness.
for someone else: are taking away their chance to face their own responsibilities.
