Fairy Dream Meaning

Dream interpretation from 25 unique sources about Fairy

Fairy is a collective term for many different beings, often tiny, beautiful, delicate and possessing magical powers. Many fairies have a human form, but some have animal or human / animal shapes. Elves, goblins, gnomes, dwarves and trolls are the most representative of Faerie races among the many different cultures of Europe. Some cultures believe that fairies—also called ‘fae’ or ‘fey’—are real beings who can direct the powers of nature. As ‘devas’, they help plants grow and thrive when called upon for their help. Some also believe that fairies can play tricks on humans and blame them when shiny, pretty items such as jewelry are lost.

If one appeases the fairies by leaving treats or trinkets in the garden, they may be less mischievous.

Other cultures believe that fairies are both male and female and the image of butterfly innocence and sweetness may in fact be a deceptive one, as fairies were traditionally malevolent towards humans. In dreams, these old beliefs may linger and fairies may be regarded as untrustworthy beings that foreshadow trouble. Fairies in dreams may be of either sex but are typically female. For Freudians, they can represent incest fantasies with a female relative. In the symbolism of dreams, fairies can also hint at your own latent powers or potential, so if your eyes were captured by a vision of a host of ethereal fairies dancing in the moonlight, was your unconscious encouraging you to discover your own inner magic potential? In the dream world, fairies can also represent hopes and desires. Maybe you’ve been going through a bad time, and have been wishing that your fairy godmother would appear and make it all go away with her magic wand.

If a woman dreams of fairies, it can symbolize the nurturing, maternal and feminine side of herself. Fairies in men’s dreams might represent the anima, the female aspect of the personality or, in line with its colloquial sense, repressed homosexual urges. When we accept and integrate both our masculine and feminine traits, we can achieve emotional balance. What was the role of the fairy in your dream? Were your wishes granted or did you fly away to some faraway land? If you were the fairy in your dream, what kind of power did you have? How did you use it? You may need to get in touch with the magical side of your personality and believe that you really do have the power within you to make your dreams come true. [1]

These mystical, magical creatures are a part of European, Roman and Greek folklore. They are known for their fickle nature, for their ability to grant wishes and for their whims of trickery. Fairies have a capacity for malice, their tools are wands and rings and they can generally be found in groups of three.

The idea of three fairies is at times interpreted as representing childhood, adulthood and old age, or birth, life and death. Fairies may be called the “mistresses of magic” and they may symbolize the extraordinary powers of the human spirit and our fundamental capacity of imagination. Alternatively, we may want to hold on to beliefs in magical powers that will save us from ourselves. In order to be well adjusted human beings, we need to adapt to our environment and accept our limitations.

The fairy in your dream may be interpreted according to the details of the dream and according to your current issues or developmental dilemmas. Is the fairy in your dream giving you hope by encouraging you to be creative and resourceful, or is she playing tricks on you and perpetuating your desire to be saved by magic? [2]

Fairies represent the extraordinary powers of the human soul. Concretely, the prodigious capacity for imagination. They invite us to use all our qualities, announcing projects that up until now seemed undoable. However, if you have too much fun in the fairy world—looking to flee from your frustrations this way—you run the risk of losing sense of reality. For a man, dreaming of a fairy represents the feminine side of his personality. For a woman, it symbolizes her maternal instinct.

Some traditions believe that fairies are real beings that direct the powers of nature. There is a culture that, when a land is infertile, invokes the help of fairies to make it bloom. In fact, there are those that claim it’s possible to communicate with them through dreams. [3]

1- Bccausc fairies are representations of elemental forces, for them to appear in a dream signifies our conncction with those forces within ourselves. It could be that the lighter side of our nature is being highlighted, or it may be the more malign side as in goblins and elves.

2- Fairies are known to be capricious, and on a psychological level they may represent the side of our being that does not wish to be controlled, and wishes to have the freedom to react and be spontaneous.

3- Fairies arc reputed to have magical powers and, as Shakespeare’s Oberon found, there is also a need for control, otherwise the mischievous side will run riot. [4]

The tradition of fairies is quite ancient and ubiquitous in most mythologies in some form or another. Fairies have evolved and are fully present in modern media. They are very small magical beings who are thought of as harmless and even helpful in children’s material of today. However, they originated as beings who were often tricksters and filled with malice and ill intent.

If such a creature appears in a dream, be careful to see what its actual desires are.

A fairy could represent a thought or idea that looks harmless but actually may mean you harm. Look to where in your life you may be falling victim to magical thinking. [5]

Fairies are a specific group of otherworldly beings with mystical abilities found in most folklore, particularly in celtic and teutonic tales. Usually known for being mischievous, it is this aspect that becomes important for us in dreams. As a branch of neopaganism the increase of belief in fairies may well lead to a greater awareness and appreciation of these nature spirits and their qualities. As archetypal figures they may appear more frequently in dreams. [6]
