Fence Dream Meaning

Dream interpretation from 31 unique sources about Fence

Universal Landscape: Boundaries.

Dreaming Lens: What was the size and scope of the fence? What side of the fence were you on? Was your desire to get around the fence? Was the fence there for your protection? Was there frustration surrounding the fence’s placement in the dream, or a sense of being protected? Could you see through the fence?

Personal Focus: Fences mark the boundaries that we set in the world and any dream that contains this symbol can reveal current issues as they relate to the boundaries in your life, both those that you set and those that are set for you by others. The size of the fence and the material of which it is made adds texture to any interpretation of a fence in a dream. The more impenetrable the material is, the stronger the boundary it represents.

Which side of a fence you are on in a dream will figure heavily in how you examine such a dream. As a general rule, if the fence is protecting you, then the interpretation should focus on boundaries that you have set or should consider setting. If the opposite is the case and you experience the fence as an obstacle, look to areas in your life where your intentions are being hampered by the needs, desires, or resistance of others. If the fence is for protection, then the level of your safety will be measured by the materials from which it is made. A flimsy wooden fence could indicate you are too exposed, while a high concrete wall may indicate shutting the world out for fear of being vulnerable. A break in a chainlink fence could indicate a weak spot in your ability to protect yourself in some area of your life. If the fence contains barbed wire or some other harmful material, this could represent the consequences of taking the risk to shift boundaries in some life situation.

Someone able to get over or around a fence could indicate poor boundaries, such as the inability to say no, so that your needs are ignored by others. Trying to climb a fence indicates a need to take action in the face of obstacles. If you are inside the perimeter of such a fence and climb out, you may be feeling bound by some life constraint and willing to suffer consequences in order to break free of limitation. To climb over barbed wire is to risk being wounded in order to gain access to something or achieve your desires. Setting boundaries is a powerful indication of personal growth, which can require great courage. [1]

To dream of climbing to the top of a fence, denotes that success will crown your efforts.

To fall from a fence, signifies that you will undertake a project for which you are incapable, and you will see your efforts come to naught.

To be seated on a fence with others, and have it fall under you, denotes an accident in which some person will be badly injured.

To dream that you climb through a fence, signifies that you will use means not altogether legitimate to reach your desires.

To throw the fence down and walk into the other side, indicates that you will, by enterprise and energy, overcome the stubbornest barriers between you and success.

To see stock jumping a fence, if into your enclosure, you will receive aid from unexpected sources; if out of your lot, loss in trade and other affairs may follow.

To dream of building a fence, denotes that you are, by economy and industry, laying a foundation for future wealth.

For a young woman, this dream denotes success in love affairs; or the reverse, if she dreams of the fence falling, or that she falls from it. [2]

Vision: Standing in front of a fence: with great skill you will overcome obstacles in your path. Climbing over a fence: now it will be a cinch to solve your problem. Getting hurt in the process of climbing: you will achieve your goal—with, alas, a few scratches—but once you have arrived, you’ll be surprised how different things are from what you expected.

Depth Psychology: A fence can mean protection or an obstacle.

If the fence is blocking your path, have courage and jump over it. Is a fence surrounding your property (house, garden)? Or is the fence a metaphor for the limitations imposed on you from the outside? Take a good look at the rest of the dream symbols! [4]

Example: I saw that we had got into a fenced off area where the gentry landowners parked their cars while they went shooting. I could see the landowner in his car beyond the fence, looking angry that I was in his property. I thought I would break through the fence with the elephant, but then saw a low area which the elephant easily stepped over’ (Arthur P).

The fence often depicts our sense of social barriers; need for privacy, territorial feelings, also our boundaries in relationship which might prevent us daring to express ourselves or be creative.

See also: wall. Idioms: rush one’s fences; wrong side of the fence; sit on the fence. [5]

(See also: Climbing)

(1) A fence may represent a barrier of some sort, which may or may not be self-imposed: social class distinction, some inner complex restricting your self-expression or the expression of some basic desire, etc.

(2) Perhaps it is a set of prohibitions which you have adopted consciously or unconsciously but which are depriving you of normal satisfactions.

(3) Your domestic or work situation may be the fence: perhaps it is too restricting and you want or need to break out.

(4) Of course, if you are just sitting on the fence, it’s make-your-mind- up time. [6]

An obstacle dream.

The nature of the obstacle depends on the dreamer’s circumstances, as well as on other symbols in the dream.

If the scene on the other side of the fence is beautiful and peaceful, hope lies ahead, and if the dreamer gets over the fence, what he wants will indeed manifest in spite of obstacles.

If the land on the other side of the fence is barren and rocky, and/or the dreamer is having trouble climbing the fence, what you’re seeking may not be what it seems and it might be best to turn back. Sitting on a fence indicates a major decision to be made. [7]

1- When we dream of fences we are dreaming of social or class barriers or perhaps our own need for privacy. We may be aware of boundaries in relationships which can prevent us from achieving the proper type of connection we need. We may have difficulty in expressing ourselves in some way.

2- When we come up against a fence or a barrier there is extra eflbrt which is needed in order for us to overcome whatever that barrier represents.

3- A fence can represent spiritual boundaries.

The dreamer needs to look at what is restricting him in his spiritual quest. [8]

It is possible that you feel that there are barriers obstructing your path. In this sense, your capacity for action or expression is fenced. The cause could be an unsatisfactory relationship in which you cannot act your true self. In a similar manner, your work or circumstances could be restricting your personal growth.

It is your duty to try to topple such fences and barriers to bring out your sincere self.

A fence is an obstacle and, in many places, ancient dream tradition says that this dream predicts future difficulties. [9]

Fences represent the need for good boundaries in relationships.

A fence that is tom down may signify the tearing down of the boundaries or barriers in a relationship.

A wooden fence keeps others out as well as keeping you from being seen. Thus, it may be commenting that you are hiding from others A chain-link fence may point to someone who is willing to be seen but still maintains a boundary of safety.

A stone or brick wall may signify a solid, impenetrable wall between two people. [10]

A dream of a fence is a straight out obstacle dream and can only be used in the interpretation as action and content define.

It is a symbol of being hemmed in, confined, restrained and otherwise prevented from going where one would want to go. It also a symbol of protection of property, self, and possession.

A fence between you and another person could be saying to that person, “this far and no further”. [11]

To see a fence in your dream signifies an obstacle or barrier that may be standing on your path. It can also symbolize a need for privacy.

To dream that you are climbing to the top of a fence foretells success.

If you climb over the fence, you will accomplish your desires by sneaky means. [12]

To be encircled by a fence or a wall means that the dreamer is suffering from emotional restraint or denial.

If you climb over the fence or knock it down, you will find a way to surmount the problem.

For a young woman, the fence can be symbolic desire for marriage and motherhood. [13]

An obstacle which must be overcome before you continue with your lessons.

3. Protection from uncontrollable or primitive feelings.

A leaning fence can symbolize a person under pressure, Ps. 62:3.

A barbwire fence can symbolize a dangerous obstacle in life [17]

A fence is a blockage, but it is also protection.

Dream fences are sometimes symbolic of certain common verbal expressions, such as feeling “fenced in” and “straddling the fence.” [18]

Psychological / emotional perspective: When we come up against a fence or a barrier there is extra effort needed for us to overcome whatever that barrier represents. [19]
